Category: Housing Advocacy Region: Scarborough Center Ward 37 Target: Scarborough Centers MP John Cannis and City Councilor Michael Thompson. Web link: http://www.shhc.ca/ According to ONPHA Executive Director, Sharad Kerur, Almost 23% of Toronto tenants are spending more than half of their income on housing. The average minimum wage household in Toronto can't afford the rent on a basic bachelor apartment. I am really worried that as the economy moves deeper into recession, more and more households will be forced to choose between paying the rent and other necessities. Within Toronto the Community we are advocating for is Scarborough Center (Ward 37). According to Stats Canada 46.9 % of Scarborough Center (Ward 37) population spend more than 30% of their income on rent. A total of 4,045 people. Please support us in raising more awareness in order to obtain funding from our provincial government for The Scarborough Housing Help Centre. This excellent non-profit organization supports all people through practical assistance in seeking and maintaining housing. To this end, it has developed programs to address eviction prevention, social isolation for homeless young parents and education on homelessness and housing issues. In 2004 through the various programs provides by SHHC 100,000 clients were helped in evading the risk of homelessness. We need your support to help to increase funding so more clientele can be reached before the point of homelessness. In doing so we will contact Scarborough Centers MP John Cannis and City Councilor Michael Thompson.

Housing in this city is getting out of control. Nobody can afford these rent prices anymore. Keep this place open.

SHHC helped a friend of mine back in the day when they were about to get evicted. They do good work for real people.

THESE PRICES ARE CRAZY. How are people supposed to survive?? Stop cutting funding to the programs that actually help families stay in their homes.
