The LCBO has officially decided to keep our local store open. Having 152 signatures helped show that our town expects to be consulted on decisions that impact our economy. We should stay attentive to future developments but for now we have secured the service our community requires.

WHEREAS the Township has received very short notice that the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) is planning to close our local store by the end of the year (2019) during the holiday season and offer up an LCBO Convenience Outlet to a local business instead; and,
WHEREAS the Township is a remote northern community with very limited amenities and services; and
WHEREAS the Township is very disappointed with the LCBO for their lack of communication and their total absence of consultation with regard to the closure; and
WHEREAS the Township is in support of the Ontario Public Services Employee Union’s (OPSEU) request that the LCBO retract the Request for Proposal issued to local business owners on Tuesday, September 17th, 2019 which calls for applications to become an LCBO Convenience Outlet; and,
WHEREAS the Council is committed to building the Community of Hornepayne up and this unexpected announcement by the LCBO runs counter with Council’s vision for the future of our Community and will have far reaching negative impacts on our local economy; and,
WHEREAS the closure of the LCBO further causes grave concerns and raises issues with public and community safety;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Hornepayne does hereby request a halt to this process until community members have been provided a formal and meaningful method of providing feedback; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Council does hereby request that the LCBO work in partnership with the Township to develop a “made for Hornepayne” strategy to help alleviate the devastating impacts that proceeding with the closure will have on our community.

This store has been their since I was young and in my mud 60's now.They are in a very remounted area and have had way to many disappointments to help the community survive as they have little else.They are Hrs away from any major highway,taking something else away just makes it that much more remote.This isn't fair to the town.
This action will not only affect lifestyle and community living, but will be devastating for the economy, for tourism, for the North. The message it sends is clear, that isolated northern communities don’t matter. This decision must be reversed !
I visit Hornepayne once to twice a year and this store is a stop every time. I chat with the employees and sometimes meet friends shopping there. Please do not close this outlet... it is a piece of this community!
Closing this store would greatly effect our town. We are isolated and dont have towns close by. I personally believe that closing our LCBO put our town at risk for more break ins/ stealing, as well as car accidents due to people driving in winter months to get alcohol.
Our Town Council should be consulted. We have supported the LCBO in our community for decades. It is unacceptable to close this location. It’s not like they don’t get the sales here.
The LCBO is a necessity to our small community. Please reconsider
The community in Hornepayne won’t survive without the precious resource that is the the LCBO!

Mr Ford you are missing the boat. Small isolated rural communities need more "Good" jobs, rather than having them ripped away by government! We don't have economies of scale as it is....each job lost also potentially means the loss of another tax payer, and we don't have enough of them.
