Angela Mortimer is GB's most successful living tennis player, having been ranked no1 in the world in singles in 1961, she won Wimbledon and 3 other Grand Slam titles. She achieved all this despite being partially deaf and suffering from a tropical disease for 2 years at the height of her career.

Angela was born and bred in Plymouth, winning her first silverware the Carhullen Vase, on courts that are now part of Hill Lane Tennis Club, a club whose formation was part inspired by her play as a Junior. We the undersigned believe it is time to "Right the wrong 55 years on!" and for Angela to be finally recognized in the New Years Honours List.

We are residents of Plymouth and members of Hill Lane Junior Tennis Club and feel it's very aspirational for young, local players to know about Angela.

Please recognise her tenacity against all odds at a time when life was so much more difficult for women with talent to get any type of support.
