Denise Johnson has spent her entire career dedicated to Tarkington ISD, to the growth of our athletic program, and to the betterment of our student athletes. She has shown a true commitment to not only the volleyball program, but also to the school, district, and community. Coach Johnson began working for TISD in 1981 and went on to start the volleyball program in 1986. Through her many coaching accomplishments, she has provided the skills for TISD students to enable many of them to receive scholarships towards a higher education. She has created not only a legacy of volleyball champions, but one of strong, progressive, independent, community leaders, teachers, coaches, and all-around dependable, successful individuals. Please sign this petition to have TISD's high school gym named in her honor. This is an ongoing petition and our support and attendance is greatly appreciated!

Coach Johnson has made a ripple to the life of my niece Dawn Walker. She brought out the best in her when she was in a place that the sport and the coach with the correct support changed her life. I am in awe of this woman and her “never give up” way of life for these girls! Thanks Coach from the bottom of our hearts! May your future be bright and full of peace!
Denise has been great not only at Tarkington but for the whole State. She has been a great faithful contributor on several TGCA committees and is a wonderful person. I’m so happy and proud to call her my friend!
Denise Johnson is the reason Tarkington is on the map! Just as Nelson field is named after an amazing educator we should do the same and honor Coach Johnson!
She shaped me for college ball and for life. I tried quitting when I broke my feet and she looked at me like are you crazy you have to much potential. She pushed me to get back on the court after my injury because she believed in me. She deserves this honor.
It's good common sense to name a gym after a woman who has given her whole adult life to the T.I.S.D. sports program. It's sad it took a petition to bring awareness of Coach Johnson's merit.
