I originally posted about this on the 9th, and I finally got a hold of the safety director out of the Graham office, but unfortunately, he wasn’t much help. He told me they followed the plans provided by TxDOT and that I’d just need to file a claim through my insurance as a road hazard. He could not confirm if they would cover anything, saying anyone could claim windshield damage. I explained this isn’t some random claim, my employment can be verified, and I drive that stretch of 287 North and South Monday-Friday. I have been on that highway for years and never had issues with flying rocks until they tore it up. They could’ve managed this project better, maybe closing one lane at a time or laying fresh asphalt in sections like I’ve seen done in past repairs on other sections, and never got my windshield cracked. Now the contractor gets paid, and drivers are left footing the bill. I have two vehicles with damage and will likely see my insurance rates go up. It’s frustrating, and no one seems to care. If any attorney is thinking about a class-action lawsuit over this, I’d absolutely join.

My windshield was damaged when I was going down a stretch of this Hwy while pulling a horse trailer and cars and trucks were just passing and throwing loose pavement and rocks at my truck.

For those not wanting to work through their insurance company, or those only carrying liability, make it unconfortably clear to Zak that you demand reimbursement for damages. Call Zak Burkette's local office in Wichita Falls at 2600 Old Burk Highway. Its time they get the steamroller treatment for sloppy road debris handling. The responsibility for road cleanliness between milling and repaving is theirs. Their number is (940) 322-2101.

Absolutely should be held accountable for negligence as far as road construction is concerned.

I travel this stretch of road daily for work and have incurred numerous dents, dings, and cracks to my windshield. I had Safelite come out a couple weeks ago to attempt repairs. The technician told me that their service calls in the area have more than doubled due to the shoddy and irresponsible work this contractor has performed. As of today (7/9/25), the entire stretch remains milled with loose rocks and open trenches. This is completely unacceptable.
