PETITION TO AMEND ZONING ORDINANCETO: THE TOWN OF KNOX TOWN BOARD, PLANNING BOARD and ZONING BOARD of APPEALS
I, Kristen Reynders, a resident of the Town of Knox residing at 1039 Township Road, Altamont, New York petition to amend the zoning law as follows:1. Article V Section 50 (A)(1)(a) dealing with home occupation. The law currently states “in any district nothing in this Ordinance shall prevent individuals from conducting their business, trade or profession in their home or residence provided no one other than the owner or tenant of the property is employed on the premises, that no other business person, trades person or professional shall be permitted to share, let or sublet space for any use;...”
We propose that this section be
amended to state that “in any district nothing in this Ordinance shall prevent
individuals from conducting their business, trade or profession in their home
or residence provided that the owner or tenant of the property shall employ no
more than two additional individuals on the premises, ...”

Article IV Section 45 - Business Uses - This section currently lists
“Public Garage” as a non-permitted use in a residential district. We propose changing the “N” to a “C” which
would designate a public garage as a “temporary and/or conditional use
contingent on securing a Special Use Permit in each case from the Zoning Board
of Appeals.

Amend Article III - Section 41(3) District Boundaries Business. The law currently states that there are no
areas presently so designated. We would
like this section to be amended to create a business/ mixed use district
encompassing the property known as 1039
Township Road in the Town of Knox.
A legal description of the business/mixed use district shall be
determined by the Town.
The proposed changes listed above should be reviewed and considered individually and not as a whole.

The Town Board is still ignoring our requests for a formal review. Call the town office this week and demand they put this zoning amendment on the next meeting agenda.

The momentum behind these zoning changes is tangible. Reach out to three neighbors today to explain why we need this flexibility for our home businesses. Send an email to the town board members demanding they put our proposal on the next meeting agenda.

Last Thanksgiving both of my children were in accidents on super cold snowy days. Hitmans is who showed up to get them out in a very reasonable amount time. I was so glad that we have someone close to call for towing. I hope Hitmans are able to continue to operate in the Town of Knox.
My daughter Kristen and son-in-law Dave are the hardest working kids I know and I love them very much. They have built up this business that started with one beat up old panel truck. Now they employ several people from Knox and bring tax dollars to the town. Why is this one business out of all businesses in Knox being singled out? Only the Town Board knows and they aren't talking. I thank you all for your support. It means a great deal to us.
Please let people earn a living and maybe at the same time support one or two other families. It's hard enough for small businesses to comply with all the state laws, don't make it any more difficult for these enterprising people just trying to make ends meet. I don't live in Knox but I do live on the hill and we are in serious need of businesses here and everywhere else in this state.
My son locked my keys in my car. At 8:30 in the morning, while I was visiting family in Berne. A call was made and Hitman was there within 20 minutes. They were so professional and helpful. It is such an asset having a local company come to the rescue. They are a business, they are in the hilltowns, this is where they belong!
I see that their neighbors are content with having the business next door.I have been by the location numerous times. It looks like they are try to keep the property in order.Much better than other properties I have seen.
This is LONG over due. Time for growth in this town, rather than the continued slow death cause by long term incumbents!
Let's keep Hitmans Towing up and running. Please make amendments to keep the family business going. Let's not up root family and business because of political bs

It's about time that we have some businesses in Knox. This is a great business, and there is no reason to keep their lives in constant turmoil. The town has used them like a ping pong ball back and forth between the Planning Board, Zoning Board, and the Town Board, enough is enough. I live next door to them, and have absolutely no complaints. Let's keep nice young families in the town!!
