We are in favor of a larger venue so more family members can attend.

I am a Highlands graduate, my parents are Highlands graduates, my daughters and son, brothers, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles all Highlands graduates (or soon to be). I LOVE the strong Highlands traditions and look forward to building more with my children. I believe the buildings are just a small part of those traditions - it's the amazing education, the friendships and community support that make Highlands so great! If it's the buildings then we shouldn't have done so much to update them over the last few years; they are nothing like the halls I walked or the classrooms I sat in, but I still love the school and the tradition it stands for! Where the students are when they walk across the stage to receive their diploma does not diminish their education or strip them of any of the Highlands traditions they grew up with. I have some years before this becomes an issue in my house, but I hope the "Tradition" reasoning is not holding people back from making the right decision for the students today!

This "tradition" is not functional and/or appropriate in 2016! It took many to raise my boys after their father died and to tell grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends and coaches that they couldn't be at this celebration was simply hurtful for everyone. Change is good and the right thing to do for everyone, especially the kids!

It breaks our heart to not be able to have important members of the family present, in the same room, to see our daughter graduate this year. She has grandparents and a couple aunts that are very important and very special to her. We would love for them to attend and they would love to be there. It's unfortunate to turn them and many other people away from a milestone event such as a graduation ceremony. Any reason I've heard for not moving the ceremony this year or any other year, is nothing that couldn't be solved with some creativity and willingness to change. I understand and appreciate tradition and know that tradition is a huge part of what Highlands stands for. What I don't understand and cannot accept is why tradition would ever take priority over inclusion. I think the willingness to move the ceremony so as to include more people in the celebration would speak volumes to the empathy and compassion of the decision makers in the district. It's time to make new traditions for our school and community.

Tough only getting 4 tickets when you have a family of 7

This is past due. Having to choose between family members who gets to attend is simply not fair. Families should be able to attend such an important event.

It's a shame that if a student's immediate family is more than 4 people not everyone can attend graduation. In our case, one of us would miss it. I think it's more important for students to have the support system that got them through school to witness their achievement than some silly old tradition!

Please explore the many options within a 5 mile radius that are available for holding Graduation. Students would not arrive at this point without the support and involvement of their families. The family unit of today's students looks much different than it did many decades ago. Making families choose which relative to invite, excluding the others is hurtful and insulting. My family was faced with this at HHS in the 1990s and it was very troubling for my divorced parents. The class sizes have doubled since then and our PAC renovation did not increase capacity to reflect our growth. This is one tradition that needs to be changed. A stage is just a location, but family is forever.

High school graduation is an important milestone and accomplishment in the life of a child. I chose to send my daughter to Highlands High School because of the excellent academic reputation that would help prepare her for the next phase of her life. My family would love to be able to attend and support her at the graduation ceremony. Picking between who is the most important relative to watch her graduate is not an easy decision. My daughter loses out along with the family members that are left out. Highlands High School should understand this and support the cause. Please consider moving to a larger venue. Thanks.
