The extremely high prices of parrots at Petco ensures that pets do not not sell and as such these parrots are subjected to a life of hell in the way of not being loved by a proper loving family. This has become a prison for parrots! Petco may tell you that they transfer birds to other locations so they don't become "stale" birds with the same people and atmosphere but this is not true, A cinnamon Quaker parrot at a Petco in New York was noticed by a customer around Christmas 2012 and as of July 2013 it is still there this bird has become cage aggressive and hand shy (not being able to step-up without fear) and the reason for this is the high price of this parrot, it is 899.00 the average price for a Quaker parrot is 200-300 dollars. We have to put a stop to these high prices of birds, so that these parrots can go home and become part of a loving family! PLEASE NOTE: this is not a petition to stop stores from selling animals.
The stories coming in about these birds are heartbreaking and reinforce why this work remains necessary. I am exhausted by the silence from store management but I am not walking away from this fight.

Seeing this grow is exhausting but it proves that I am not the only one who sees these birds suffering in those cages. I am tired of the excuses from these stores and this momentum is the only thing keeping me going right now.

Petco needs to wake up. These birds are suffering and the prices are just pure greed. Stop treating living things like luxury cars.

899 for a quaker? that is absolutely insane. no wonder the poor thing is acting out. these birds deserve better than to rot in a glass box because someone wants a massive profit.
