Whereas Borders Books in Highland Park has two years remaining on its current lease and the new building owner has demanded additional rent and other concessions or will otherwise convert this space to other use; and
Whereas Borders Books is the only general bookstore in our town, and is a highly desirable meeting place for students and other reading members of the community, and greatly enhances the downtown environment;
We the undersigned residents of Highland Park hereby petition the City of Highland Park to provide tax or other financial incentives or take other actions to enable Borders Books to remain in its current location for the duration of its lease.

This is honestly so sad. We spend so much time there with the kids on weekends and now it just feels like highland park is losing everything that made it special.
