Help us to rezone A to Z Discovery Preschool from R-1 (residential) to B-1 (business)! For the city counsel to hear us, we must be louder than the opposing side, which are the residents from the side street beside the Preschool. I feel strongly that an injustice is being done! The voices of the opposing side are drowning out the logical and right choice for the council.

The preschool should be rezoned because: the entrance is on Hwy 44, it is adjacent to other B-1 properties on 2 sides, our property was deeded out in 1960 which is two years before the subdivision restrictions were put into record in 1962, we've placed restrictions that will not allow an entrance to be placed from the side street or for an adult book store or storage units to be put there, a 6 foot barrier will need to be installed between the preschool's property and the residential one, and small businesses are vital for the growth of Shepherdsville. Here are the opposing sides arguments: our trash and mail are on their street, my staff walk 4-6 toddlers (using a walking rope) up and down their street daily, the preschool has created more traffic on Hwy 44, we must abide by the subdivision restrictions since we are on the Coakley Subdivision plat, and they're afraid of getting extra cars down their street because they've missed the entrance to the Preschool.

I hope that you've been able to see which side sounds more logical. Unfortunately, the city council seems to be listening very intently to the opposing side's arguments.

I need YOUR support!

If you also see the injustice happening here you can:

1. Pray for the City Council members to have wisdom. Pray that no matter what happens, we’ll be able to give God the glory that he so richly deserves.

2. Start by signing the petition.

3. Then email the City Council members (Larry Hatfield- [email protected]; Lisa Carter- [email protected]; Stacey Cline- [email protected]; Bonnie Enlow- [email protected]; Deb Huffman- [email protected]; Kenny Newton- [email protected]) and asking these questions-“Why is the Council so dysfunctional?”

  • “Why don’t you support small businesses in this town?”
  • “Why are you not thinking of the need for this type of service-related business both now and in the future to support the employment in Shepherdsville, particularly that related to the e-commerce industry?”
  • “Are you not aware that these nice people are willing to put reasonable restrictions on this property, yet NO ONE will talk to them or their attorneys?”
  • Why is this property being treated differently than all the other business property at the entrance to the many residential streets on either side of KY44 between the interstate and Floyds Fork?”
  • “Why do you not follow the advice of the City Attorney who has told you there is no residential restriction applicable to this property?”

4. Lastly, you can stand with us and attend the next city council meeting on May 13 at 6:30pm.

Will you stand with us?

I really thought this might just fizzle out but seeing how many people actually care about our zoning fight has me feeling kind of emotional today. It is honestly bizarre to think that just a few weeks ago I was sitting here worrying if anyone would even look at this but now the momentum is so tangible it feels almost heavy. I have been reading through the comments all morning and just knowing you all get why this preschool is necessary for Shepherdsville is keeping me going while the council keeps dragging their feet.

I'm not sure how the Shepherdsville city council can ignore the legal advice received from 2 lawyers that they trust and make a decision that will ultimately restrict growth to small businesses along hwy 44. It just doesn't make sense.

There is not an entrance to the said street. Rezone it. There are several other businesses around it.

Shepherdsville needs good, quality childcare. Vote yes for this rezoning to help keep a preschool at this location!!

This is a great location for a preschool or child care facility. It is easy to get to from Mt. Washington or Shepherdsville residents. There is a need for additional childcare facilities in our county. I see social media posts on a regular basis from parents asking where is a good childcare facility. One of the primary reasons I found this facility was because of its location and visibility from a main road in town. My child has attended this location for two years, the childcare workers here have kept my child safe here and we love this spot. This is no different than any of the other small businesses along 44. Please do not single out this location. Please consider zoning this to a B-1 business location.

I cannot understand why this property is being singled out by refusing to allow this property to be zoned B-1. The City Council needs to use their common sense and rule that this A to Z Discovery Preschool should be re-zoned to B-1 due to the fact that this preschool has businesses on either side of them and the entrance to this business is facing Highway 44. Please consider all the facts and reverse your previous decision. Thank you!

This property is surrounded by all kinds a commercial property I would understand the gripe about it if the property wasn’t directly on hwy 44 but it is and just like all the others that have been zoned commercial this should be too, when fact the owners are willing to have restrictions in order to protect the residents in the area.
