This community needs a refurbished playground for the school and general public who use it on a daily basis. It's a focal point for a growing, and diverse neighborhood in Alexandria. Please make it a priority to allocate needed funds!

Our playground is so central to the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria. Visitors who come into our neighborhood know it as a fixture where children of all ages can play, and our students and community deserve an update of our playground to make it code-compliant; environmentally-respectful; welcoming to ALL children; and congruent with current studies and developments for how we, as humans young and old, interact with public space.

The 890+ students at Mount Vernon Community School and all the kids in the Del Ray Community who use the playground every week deserve a safe, accessible and beautiful place to play! In my opinion they also deserve a new play structure to replace the very old one that's in place, but the MVCS PTA came up with a cost conscious plan to avoid asking the School Board for too much money. Please do your part and close the funding gap so the playground revitalization project can finally get underway!

Dear Dr. Crawley,
Thanks for everything that you are doing for MVCS and for the entirety of ACPS. The board decided years ago to move forward with the mvcs play space project. The school and community have responded. However, to provide long term solutions to the underlying infrastructure problems of this site and the school building, we need to fully fund the effort. Without full funding, we will see the drainage issues continue to degrade the outdoor space and the building. Please make it an immediate priority.
Thank you,
Liz Johnson

The playground really needs help. I keep finding my 2 year old son eating chunks of the rubber when we come to pick up his sister up from school.

Dr. Crowley,
Please support the Mount Vernon community's efforts to revitalize our playground into a safer and more enriching place for MVCS students and the entire community. The playground is used by so many in the Del Ray community and people visiting the neighborhood from all over Alexandria. It is critical to have a safe outdoor space for our children, please help us complete the funding for this critical project.

Dear Dr. Crawley - As a retired teacher and grandparent of two MVCS students, I urge your support of the MVCS playground project. Play space is very important for all children and is a priority in the learning environment. This revitalization project has been well planned and needs your continued support in your budget transfers. Thank you very much!

Thank you for visiting our playground up close and personal during the rain to see why we need to make these improvements. Our community has seen this for some time and has worked hard to raise a tremendous amount of money however it has taken years and our children need a safe and improved playground now. Please help us close the gap so we can finally finish this project and our children can enjoy using it before they are middle schoolers or middle aged! :) Thank you!

Dr Crawley we so enjoyed having you at the school the other day to present AND take a tour of our playground in the pouring rain. With the number of students at this school during the weekdays and an estimated same number of students that use it on the weekends from the neighborhood, it is a well used space and part of the community. The school use however, takes priority. It is now to a point where the structures and playing areas are unsafe, despite many hours of cleanup and restoration efforts on behalf of the parent volunteers at the school. We desperately need a space for the kids to play safely but also use the space for outdoor learning time and classroom interactions. Helps us close the gap if you can
Sincerely

Dr. Crawley - Thank you for your support of the MVCS playground project. At your Superintendent's chat last week, I was pleased to hear you say this budget transfer is a priority. Please ensure that these funds are available. ACPS and our school community have invested too much in the project to not move forward.

Over 840 school kids use this playground daily. Thousands of kids and parents enjoy it every evening and weekend. It’s falling apart with drainage issues, safety issues, non-ADA compliant, broken picnic tables and standing water - these are basic maintenance issues! It’s unbelievable that the parents and community have had to raise $150K for this project and the city hasn’t step up. Our kids and citizens deserve better! The time is now! Please close the gap.

Dr. Crawley, please help us fully fund the Mt Vernon Community School playground. It's as much a part of our neighborhood and family-life as it is a part of our school.
