Final supporters
For years The Race Equality Centre has helped people from all communities
with finding solutions to problems of racial injustice and by bringing about
equality of outcomes.
The City Council funds some of the activities that we provide so it is delivered to the public free of charge.
However the City Council is planning to only fund organisations that are run and supported by national communities representing nation groups of the City’s population. This is being done despite being advised that this approach is divisive; likely to achieve the opposite to community cohesion; does not address equality of outcomes; and, is a retrograde step.
TREC does not represent just one community but helps everyone who has been treated unlawfully, regardless of their race, colour or ethnic origin.
We know some of the individuals that need us come from small communities whilst others are isolated and vulnerable within larger communities but, the Council is determined to stop us from offering that help.
Sign the petition to make sure the Council does not discriminate against any individual and continues to support us for the benefit of all the City’s residents.

I have spent my mornings reading your messages and they remind me why this centre is the heartbeat of our city. While the council continues to ignore the risks of their new plan, I am busy preparing our formal response to their office. We will keep fighting to ensure that no neighbor is left without support.

The momentum behind this effort is overwhelming and serves as a powerful reminder that our city refuses to accept these divisive policies. Seeing so many people recognize the vital role this center plays for our most vulnerable neighbors gives me immense hope for our future.

Enough is enough with the cuts. There are extremely vunerable people who will have no where else to turn. The workers there do an amazing job helping those in crisis find work. A bit ironic, closing a centre who help the most vulnerable find work and putting employees out of work.
The Race Equality Centre is the only organisation in the city that offers their expertise and knowledge to provide direct support to help people from all communities address problems of racial discrimination.
TREC's work is valuable and important. recent projects such as Enterprising New Arrivals have been ground breaking. It is critical that TREC's core funding remains in tact.
It’s a grave indictment of our city council’s current governance that instead of celebrating and supporting the well-established, cutting edge and much loved and respected TREC, the city mayor seems hell bent on wrecking the city’s international standing for community cohesion which TREC has contributed so much to over the years.
This shift to only supporting 'nation groups' will be a disaster, which will lead in years to come to a Balkanised city. Save TREC.
TREC has always been representative of the community which it so generously serves and promotes. Few organisations have the ability, insight or passion to respond decisively and effectively to the concerns and needs of the people of the city of Leicester who would otherwise remain unseen and unheard. Any threat to the work and future of TREC is a threat to equality of provision for all Leicester residents.
Trec is amazing and helps loads of vulnerable people in distress and difficulty. Why would the council want to change its funding to exclude people from accessing it?

TREC is aTREC is multicultural body in a multicultural city. It brings in and involves volunteers from all communities. To lose those volunteers and to receive input from sectarian groups only will do irreparable damage to Leicester.
