To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Shila Bui and I recently reserved a spot on the waitlist for Fall 2016 admission. I would very much like to remain on the waitlist to be considered for admission because Chapman University is not only my top choice school, but a school I believe I would thrive at and contribute to.
As an immigrant from Vietnam, determination and diversity are values I hold close to my heart. Watching my parents work hard to come here, and working even harder here in the United States to ensure good futures for my sister and I pushes me to work harder each day. Having to assimilate to American culture, while still remaining true to my own heritage, has instilled great appreciation for all cultures and given me a much broader worldview. I believe that diversity is a substantial factor of success because this awareness and appreciation for all backgrounds paves the way for deeper understanding and personal connections. Everyone says they want to change the world. They all have grand dreams and big ideas, but I believe it all starts with understanding the world around us and broadening our experiences. This is where change begins.
At its core, Chapman University values diversity highly and I believe going to a school whose values align closely with mine will help me continue to develop as a multidimensional thinker, ready to engage with the world, while tackling the challenges it has to offer. As priorly stated, I believe change begins on small scales. Change comes in waves and I have done my part by giving back to my community by volunteering at the local hospital, donating to charities, and hosting nonprofit events. Attending Chapman University, particularly, the Schmid College of Science and Technology, where the faculty aims “to provide personalized education of distinction that leads to inquiring, ethical and productive lives as global citizens”, would present me with more opportunities to yield change in my environment.
For various reasons, I would love to attend Chapman University because I know it is a community that will challenge me as an individual and expose to me to great opportunities, inevitably leading me to broaden my horizons to find success.
Shila Bui
P.S. I have already contacted the admissions of Chapman University and told them that Chapman University is my first choice college, sent in two additional letters of recommendations, and wrote an additional essay in regards to how and why I would fit in at Chapman University (the letter you are reading above).

I believe that this young lady is determined to help her parents make a good life for her and her sister. I believe in her and hope that she gets accepted!
She is more than worthy of your consideration. She is such a loving, caring and all around wonderful person and I believe she is a perfect fit for your school community. She stays on top of things and keeps up with her responsibilities. I do not doubt that she has the qualities necessary to become a student at your school.
As a French girl, I always looked at this university choice funnily, cause here, we are accepted in any uni we want too. What you are experiencing would be us trying to enter a special school, that isn't ran by our government. Now that I'm older, I realise what a mess your post high-school education looks like and I very much hope that you will get where you want. I wish you all the luck Xx :)
Good luck! I'm under the stress of college acceptances now and I wanted to do anything to help another senior going through this stressful time too.
Although I don't know her personally, Shila is a very nice and sweet girl from various tweets we have had . I have no doubt that she would be an excellent addition to Chapman Unibersity. She outdoes herself in many aspects and is deeply committed to anything she does.
signing. enjoy college :)
As someone who is going through the college process as well, I can tell you that I definitely have not taken this measure, even to appeal a decision. I think the fact that Shila created this petition in the first place is a testament to her ability to think outside the box and work hard in order to achieve her goals. I truly hope Chapman University realizes that she'd be an incredible addition to their student body because of her energetic personality and inherent nature to always give back to the community. Chapman, do yourself a favor and take her off the waitlist; you won't regret it.

Some one who would go out of their way to work so hard for a school deserves the loyalty from the school as well.
