The Town of Georgina is forcing our family to move our basketball net from the grass boulevard on Joliette. There are many basketball nets all over Georgina, more than a few are actually on the road (not ours), and kids have been using them for years and years. I understand that the Town is just doing their job but when you really stand back and think about this situation it actually seems very ridiculous and sad. Stopping children from playing basketball on a tiny side street. Not a main highway, not even a busy side street like Dunnville (where our house is) but a side street that actually has only 28 houses on it (Joliette) and traffic is very very light. The basketball net is on the grass boulevard and does not impede Joliette traffic, vehicle parking or anything else on Joliette. Oh, except when the kids are playing basketball or hockey on this side street with 28 houses and minimal traffic. In an era where we find it difficult to get our children to exercise and or get off the TV/video games we should be doing everything in our power to encourage exercise/sports; not discourage it by making families move a basketball net that is not even on the road. Why should the complaint of one “Georgina Resident” overrule the voices of many! If you disagree with the actions of the city of Georgina please sign this petition to help get it reversed.
