Hauser Lake No Wake Speed Designation
Studies abound that indicate small, shallow bodies of water that see marked increases in recreational motorized watercraft keep sediments suspended which lead to a lake developing an inability to cool itself naturally. Higher than natural water temps adversely effects the balances. As a result algae blooms become more pronounced, frequent and prolonged. Wildlife and humans alike are at risk. Water science suggests the lake bottom becomes a dead zone.
Hauser lake was studied in 2000 by the Idaho department of environmental quality. Along with other lakes in North Idaho the study declares that these small shallow lakes are naturally in decline from watershed sedimentation. Add the increased number of lakeside residential septic leech, warmer winters, less runoff the pace of the lakes natural decline rate is increased. Add watercraft numbers exceeding the carrying capacity of the lakes size relative to boat presence and speeds and the science of it all takes a toll daily during summer months the lake cannot recover from.
Something needs to happen. It’s obvious housing will not decrease. We cannot dictate or hope for consistent inflow of snow melt. But we can band together and try to influence our County commissioners to hear the matter and decide, as leadership, to give the no wake speed moratorium a try.

The lake is too small for big boats. The noise is more than annoying. It should be for fishermen and smaller boats. Big boats should be on big lakes.
Needs tried so the lake can heal. Revisit in a year and possibly ban certain watercraft that is causing the damage.
As a Hauser resident I want to save this lake and preserve the lake from the environmental impacts the huge wakes cause and the noise pollution of these boats
I spend a great deal of time on the shore of Hauser lake in the summer. I’m not as annoyed with loud boats or wakes but I am concerned about the increased amounts and earlier arrival of algae. It cut me and my pups summer water time short. I’d be interested to see the results of this study to see if it can make any difference.
I support implementing a no-wake speed designation on Hauser Lake as a practical measure to mitigate shoreline erosion, reduce sediment resuspension, and limit structural impacts to docks and nearshore infrastructure caused by wake energy. High-wake vessel traffic accelerates bank degradation, increases turbidity, and can negatively affect aquatic vegetation and habitat stability. A no-wake zone would help preserve shoreline integrity, maintain water quality, and improve overall safety for recreational users by minimizing unpredictable wave action in confined areas. This is a reasonable approach that balances recreational use with long-term environmental and property protection.
I have been watching the trees along my 100 feet of beach losing all soil/rock now roots are exposed and the trees WILL die as the waves work their way to the road
Please do whatever we can do to save our lake!!!

Wakes and espe ially aggressive boaters have gotten way out of hand on Houser. I've been injured while shore fishing by wakes moving very large rocks and can't even trust putting a kayak in the water there anymore from wreckless power boats through their ignorance or malevolence. These high speed/wake boating enthusiasts have larger bodies if water to enjoy in the area without risking so many other people's safety.
