Hardship Registration for the Arabian Horse Association

Not an AHA member yet, but I am the owner of a half Arab rescue.

I would love to be able to show my newly rescued Arabian at class a dressage shows. He did not come with papers because the kill buyer wouldn't bother even telling me where he came from. I'd love to be able to showcase his talent at rated shows and put money back into the Arabian horse registry with my new gelding.

We whole heartedly support this cause! We've adopted rescues & 2d career horses but were often denied showing dreams because we couldn't get papers.

It is my understanding that the DNA database is not searchable for what you would need to accomplish this. It can only compare your sample to who you state the parents are. It can't give you a % of Arabian blood. Not that it isn't a great idea, it's just not currently possible.

Rescue Arabians such as mine need documentation to increase their chances of finding good homes.

Fantastic mission/initiative. There needs to be more opportunity and awareness of the 'every day' horseman/woman who work for a living, sometimes multiple jobs to pay the board, pay for lessons, tack, clothing, hay, grain, vet care......show up every day to care for their horses. The ones who want desperately to rescue....but can't afford to. THANK YOU.

And make the cost reasonable!

I think this is a very good idea, and would save many horses from slaughter, as they could be shown in half Arabian classes. Please consider it.

I also have a rescue horse (gelding) that my vet has assured me is very high percentage Arabian if not 100%. He has lived with us for over 10 years now and I would have LOVED to show him at the Community shows we used to have. I also show dressage at open shows with my Arabian and Half Arabian that would be great for him to be an official ambassador along with those other two. IN the past we have had unregistered Arabians that people either lost papers to or never registered them. To have papers helps owners know history and history is very important. (and fun!)

The board of AHA should absolutely take action as the members have, and embrace the Arabian horses who, by no fault of their own, seperate from papers.

This will be a great boost to Arabian horse rescue organizations trying to place unregistered horses in new homes.

There are so many GOOD Arabian bred horses (full and part) that are part of rescue operations that don't have their Arab registry papers available. These horses are being lost to the Arabian horse community as a whole. They should be allowed in the registry for showing purposes. I was our county Arabian show yesterday and it was appaling how many horses were NOT there. My grand-daughters lagest class (Adult Amatuer) was 5 or 6 horses - and that was a halter class! Very few of those horses were shown in Hunt Seat or Western tack. The Saddle Seat had more entries, but how does that show the versitility of the breed? Her horse is a registered straight-Egyptian gelding and he can and does it all! In cluding speed classes, which is also good at! We need more horses available for show so the public can see how great these horses are!

Be a leader AHA, show your true support for this beautiful, intelligent, noble breed -- including the thousands of worthy & talented Arabians who have found new homes and careers through equine rescue organizations.

I'm not a current member, but as a former and hopefully future, Arabian owner, I wanted to express my desire that heritage of such wonderful animals can be preserved. It's not an animal's fault that breeders and owners mess around with the transfer of registration papers, so allowing registry by DNA should be allowed.
