We need to keep Weequahic High School alive - give current principal, Faheem Ellis the opportunity to show the City of Newark what a Great High School Weequahic is. I am very proud to be an alumni of this school.

Please leave Weequahic High School alone . It is a landmark for Newark NJ and must be preserved as long as there is a Newark., We all graduated from there and many prominent graduates came from there. . We all learned ans so will the students going there. Leave it alone.

Our school has a long and storied path; with academics, famous graduates, in a historic neighborhood and as a sports legend throughout the state. We can combine the best of what it was and is with what it can be in the future. KEEP WHS OPEN

Closing Weequahic would be a tragedy beyond description. Weequahic has always been in the fore front on a State wide basis of providing a real quality education to its students.

the plan will close all three public high schools in the south-west part of Newark - Weequahic, Shabazz and West Side while leaving East Side and Barringer in place. This certainly disenfranchises the residents and young people of this part of Newark!

I am ready, willing, and able to join in any efforts to mobilize past and present residents of our Weequahic community to support and defend the physical , symbolic, and pedagogical existence of our High School. Weequahic High School was for past generations and must continue to be for the present generation the symbolic center of gravity of the neighborhood. For us and no less for this generation, the High School was/ is the institution around which our shared sense of place grew and must continue to grow; especially as our old neighborhood and the city of which Weequahic is its southern extremity seeks to regenerate itself. I will, as I imagine you and so many of our symbolic past and present extended “mispocha” now begin to come up with strategies to make certain that Weequahic is the once and forever center of our former world. Please keep me informed as plans progress to take the appropriate actions to guarantee the outcome we all seek.
