Weequahic High has given a first class education to many. It's history and memories live with many of us who have benefitted from the traditional high school program.

Turning any school into a charter school into a charter school has become a way to exploit teachers. It is especially hurtful to a school as great as Weequahic,which has been underwritten with the help of her alumnae.

Weequahic High School has an excellent reputation for educating outstanding alumnae. They are among the most knowledgeable and best citizens of our state. The alumni association continues to heavily support the school and has created many student scholarships for present students to attend colleges. It is imperative that this fine high school continue as a public high school.

I won't sign this petition, I sent my thoughts after the very first announcement came out. Seven out of my seven grandchildren have attended private schools, all faith based except for two who attended totally secular high schools. How many of your grandchildren have attended public schools? Woluld you like to see them at Weequahic HS today?--Or even in its greatest possible new incarnation in the Newark School District? We were schooled under Max Hertzberg. This is now, they don't make them like that any more. As for the students and the school system, they don't make them like that any more either. You know all the reasons.

I am a proud graduate of Weequahic High School and had a fine education. I want to see the high school continue to produce fine citizens. The test scores have improved and they don't need more charter schools in Newark.

As a member of the Board of Directors of the Berkeley Public Education Foundation, we have seen attempts at small schools within a large historic high school.

Trying not to approach from the sentlemental thoughts of having our Weequahic High School gone, but looking at this from the realistic view that this is still a great school and with such a powerful alumni associat ion supporting it, can only help to continue to create a great educational environment. The state should not be running the Newark Schools, teachers should be allowed to have more input and be more respected by the politicians. One of the things that made our school great was less outside influences. And, if the Superintendant really wants to improve educat ion, the changes must start at the elementary level.
