`I am a proud graduate, WHS '62. The failed policy, imported from NYC, of closing struggling schools instead of helping them turn around should not be allowed to cross the river and destroy more schools.

Just visited WHS this past semester and was impressed with the organization of the high school, the principal, and the students. Would hate to see the public comprehensive aspect of WHS end. Why should it? Traditional high schools are still necessary for those who plan to attend college.

Weequahic, as a community based high school, is actively supported by an extremely passionate, caring highly recognized Alumni organization. This environmnent works best for the high school and while one can always learn from other models, Newark and its history is not like any other other city, e.g., NYC.

I received worf that on 1/6/14, WHS became a Girls Academy.....Not sure of official name
