Hammond High Magnet School's staff and/or principal have created a new rule that only allows students to wear outerwear that is solid navy, purple, or white. However, the previous rule which was created by the Tangipahoa School District allowed students to wear outer garments of any color as long as they fully zip or button up. This new rule not only limits students but has resulted in some students not being able to wear any outerwear at all because they have purchased clothing that corresponds to the previous rule. Hammond Highs response however was to sell $5 sweaters. Students and parents should not have to pay for new outer clothing due to a rule that was enforced at the last minute. In addition this has put a financial strain on parents. Please sign this petition if you believe that this new rule is unnecessary and should not be enforced since it was not expressed to students before the school year began! This is very inconvenient. I was not informed about the change. I struggled getting school clothes and supplies. I can't afford to purchase anything else.
Hey, I am a former graduate from HHMS and from my experience I don’t believe a certain jacket stops the students from learning or causes a distraction.
I truly believe that , the rules or expectation or getting a little too high and difficult . There are many kids out here who doesn’t have it all you can’t just say this and that certain things . Their parents might not have it . Everybody can’t afford things . I’ll rather see a kid with the wrong jacket on then cold and out .. not having anything !
It seems like they only making it so we can buy those school sweaters. Feel like I wasted money on all them jackets I bought. I’m in school 5days a week & I can only wear my jackets 2 days out of a 7 day week ??
I totally disagree with these new rules. This is my last lear of high school and I’m already facing countless fees... jackets shouldn’t be added to the list!
My brother Joshua Stewart is in that high school and I go to Hammond Eastside. I am in 8th grade and will be attending the high school next year. I do not want to be limited to the types of outwear I can ware. I believe the things students ware allow the them to express themselves in their own way and not have to be suffocated by rules that will not better the school itself.
Some parents cant buy their kids hoodies and sweatshirts so why stop the kids from wearing their own jacket the school board said that we can wear any kind of jacket so why are you change the rules

My child has a gray zip up sweater that I bought for her last year to wear to school. I shouldnt have to go out and buy another after spending tons on uniforms, class fees and supplies. This isnt fair. The school board rules say any color! It shouldnt be different for one school in that school boards district!
