Hope to open and maintain the Haiku Stairs; as a commercially viable ecological tourist destination on Oahu with minimal negative impact on the neighborhood. The views from above are priceless and hope to have the opportunity to climb the stairs legally soon.

(Born and raised Windward local and avid hiker) The Haiku Stairs hike is one of the most enjoyable and beautiful ways to experience Oahu. It would be a real tragedy and loss to locals and tourists alike if it were to be shut down simply because of access. There is plenty of area there for a small parking lot. If access like that were made available the residents wouldn't need to be disturbed by people sneaking in at night or parking in front of their houses.

I keep reading it is an ownership issue. Is it no one knows who splits the proceeds from all the "Aloha for sale"? It's simple, I don't want to step on someones flowers, nore wake sleeping kids at night. I just want to taste a few pure things in life. I believe climbing these stairs and enjoying the mountain/sea myst and sunshine along with the views is what little nature my generation has left to appreciate.

Please keep this beautiful landmark open. I personally have never had an opportunity to experience the awesome vistas. I would love to have that opportunity and have that opportunity available for my children and grandchildren. Mahalo!

It will be best for everyone if the Haiku Stairs is opened because it will attract more tourists and in order to have the money to maintain the place/mountain/stairs, they can charge an entrance fee which I know most hikers would not mind paying in exchange of the beautiful scenery and adventurous hike up there.

The Haiku Stairs was a siren and we couldn't stay away. The climb... exhilarating. The view... majestic.
Keep it open but make it safe.

I'd like to do this legally. Why make people try it illegally and possibly less safe.

All the information I have read are sound alike prevent this landmark to become famous and the heartfelt of the sightseeing with the panorama of this landscape and also where has held very value of historical and also being hassle, e.g. broken stairs, people got killed or injuries, gun shots by Navy Guard Officers, local neighbours have made their complaints about make the noises, people climb up the mountain in the dark as it is unsafe way to do, costs the guards to do their duties to stop people from climb up the stairway to Heaven, etc. Everything need to stop to create the risky for people, negative emotions, and barriers to their educational, leisure and enjoyment. There will be necessary to make the actions by set up the new and safely stairs all the way to the top from the bottom, set up the ticket station at the bottom as the hiker will pay for that and provide the full information regarding the 'Stairway to Heaven' (as alike Machu Picchu), provide the safely climb equipment (rope with carabiner, etc), reduce the guard and disturb the neighbour at the night time, etc. Meanwhile if it does happens, it will be successful by growing the numbers of tourists who will love to visit and do this adventure. Please ensure to make the plan to re-opening of the Haiku Stairs to Heaven!
