This is a draw in tourism dollars that will benefit the island, my main reason to travel back to Oahu would be to do this hike up the middle ridge and down the stairs I would pay a fee to do this hike legally down the stairs

I think the $100 fee for visitors is somewhat reasonable actually. Many visitors are unprepared for hiking in Hawaii. Here, we climb mountains. In most places, people consider an easy stroll through a park a "hike". Perhaps it would help them consider this better before putting themselves at risk. Also, referring to another comment someone made: I'm not so sure it should be "family-friendly". Why would someone take a small child on a 5+ hour ridge hike? Not necessarily a good idea. Maybe a compromise could be to have them take a class on hiking in HI and pay a lower fee.

We'd love the stair to stay open -- and accessible. Having 2 tiered entry fees is reasonable. Setting the entry fee for non-residents at $100 makes it in-accessible to many visitors, especially for families. Unless you are aiming to make this open mainly to the 1% any more than $25 per person is too much.

Don't remove the stairs, open them to the public! Charge an access fee and manage this historic treasure like Diamond Head.

Please open the stairs! They have been on my bucket list for years and something so beautiful should be available for everyone to see!

Please open the stairs. I would visit oahu again and spend money on the island if they were open.

With the history behind the stairs, they should be restored and re-opened.

This is a one-of-a-kind public space that we cannot tear down. Similarly to Hanauma Bay, we should charge admission and use the money to reduce the impact of its use on the neighborhood.
Let's do it!
Got my support! Anything to keep reopen! :)
A treasure!
