Not taking AP class is absolutely fine. But why penalize kids who are going extra miles to challenge themselves? Taking away reporting of wGPA is counter productive because such move sends a wrong message to students - whether they take AP or not. I support this petition of keeping wGPA.

The research presented in DR. McGee's address clearly showed that AP and Honor classes are beneficial for the students' preparedness for college. In fact, the Canadian and UK colleges look mostly at AP results during admission. Also, Dr McGee's report showed that all neighboring school districts except for Fremont reports wGPA. I fully agree with the petition that removing the wGPA will add enormous stress to students that really want to take these classes for the higher quality teaching that comes with them to maintain an "A" at all costs.

Removing weighted GPA will only add additional stress to Gunn students and prompt them to take easy classes rather than academically stimulating classes.

We have two kids at Gunn . 1) to encourage kids to challenge themselves. Without having weighted safety, it will discourage kids to take AP and Honor classes, 2) to reward kids hard work by reporting weighted grade that they deserve, and 3) not reporting WGPA cannot reduce stress generates from academic competition. All top universities need applicants to demonstrate their academic excellence and intellectual vitality. With 37,000 high schools domestically and top universities each receive 10,000 to 40,000 applications (and growing rapidly), universities need to use GPA to perform initial filtering. We need to report students' best quantitative academic result.
