This petition is in support of developing trail systems within the greater Roswell NM area, including city, BLM, Bitter Lakes, and Bottomless Lakes. Our focus will be towards responsible development of new trails, connecting to existing trails, restoration/conservation, and creating volunteer opportunities. Our hope is not to reinvent the wheel but to jump on board with existing plans and offer our community support and voice.

The signature count has reached 250 today. I am currently finalizing a formal inquiry to the BLM field office to request a meeting regarding current trail project timelines.

I use the spring river trail frequently and would love for more options and connections to be made
Funding could be made through voluntary donations and fundraisers. This is such a good idea, I think seeking grants, or possibly using lodger tax funding, plus money raised by the citizens themselves, this could easily happen. We don’t need to wait for local or state government to get this kicked off.
With Carlsbad expanding their trail and Carlsbad and Ruidoso have great trails, it could really help Roswell tourism, if they were to develop more trails. I would like to see them design a course on lands near the old airport and have a mtb course designed to fit. Grapevine TX has done this.
We have weather that allows for riding nearly the entire year; therefore, Roswell should be a model in providing a robust trail system for both commuting and recreation.
The citizens of Roswell need safe places to ride, off the streets, especially for families. More distances would be great for those cycling for fitness too. Right now the existing trails are very short and not connected in a safe manner for cyclists.

My son is 13 and loves to ride his bike. As a parent it concerns me the lack of bike paths for him to ride on. Roswell needs more to help get our kids out and more active but in a safe environment.
