PARENTS are you tired of walking over muddy pitches to watch your child play football on oversized football pitches barely touching the ball AND all in the freezing cold, wind and rain? Thankfully the F.A addressed the issue of oversized pitches so our children have more contact with the ball...now what can we do with the freezing cold, wind and rain? Its easy, its staring us in the face...ITS COMMON SENSE, SUMMER FOOTBALL. SUMMER FOOTBALL...watch your child in tshirts, shorts and flip flops, pitches in better condition allowing you to bring prams & smaller members of the family, making a real family day of it. COACHES are you tired of watching your team play on pitches resembling a potato field due to the weather? Are you tired of cancellations of games for weeks on end due to the weather? Are you tired of your team being affected by the backlog of games due to work/school commitments? SUMMER FOOTBALL...is the answer! Our children want to replicate the skills done by their footballing heroes, they cant do it in 5 inches of MUD! So lets see our children enjoy themselves, lets see them develop and enhance their skills in what seems the best environment for them to achieve this. WHAT ABOUT CLASHES WITH OTHER SPORTS???...What about it? Lets look after our own game. Many a football manager has lost a player to Rugby, it happens. ITS THE F.A's FAULT...No it isn't. Nick Levett, the FA’s National Development Manager for Youth Football, told Club Website: “What we’ve said to leagues is if they want to go to summer football – to March to November and have a break in July and August for school holidays – that’s no problem at all.” Football is about opinions, and football is traditionally a Winter sport and challenging traditions can certainly raise tensions and opinions but times change...and we are in a time where change is needed. There will be issues with local councils, no doubt but its not unassailable, lets all work together and MAKE IT HAPPEN. In a day and age we have the FA focusing on whats best for the developing of our nations younger players in regards to smaller pitches and more touches of the ball to compete with our European counter parts, we can NEVER do that if our children dont play enough football...due to the weather! Grassroots Summer Football...ITS COMMON SENSE. If your a long suffering parent/coach of these problems please sign and lets make this happen... for our childrens sake!

Updates

February 12, 2013

I have compiled the feedback from local coaches regarding pitch conditions and am preparing a formal brief for the regional board. A meeting request has been submitted to the youth development office to discuss moving the league calendar toward the warmer months.

My son is tired of playing in the mud and coming home sick every weekend. Summer makes way more sense for the kids.

About time someone said this. Standing on those frozen pitches for 3 hours is miserable for everyone involved.

Imagine being able to take the toddler in the pushchair without getting stuck in a bog. Yes please.

So sick of called-off games because the fields are waterlogged. Let them play when the sun is out!
