Lakewood Creek Subdivision parents, students and concerned citizens call for Oswego School District 308 to not shatter the educational stability of our incoming 7th and 8th graders. We appeal to grandfather ALL affected 7th and 8th grade students into our current school, Traughber Junior High for the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 school years in Map B if chosen. We strongly stand behind Map C, keeping all junior high feeders unchanged. 0.4 miles is the difference between Lakewood to Traughber and Lakewood to Thompson. Flipping flopping virtually identical numbers of students between the two to schools is senseless.

This exact age group has an immense epidemic of major depression and anxiety in America right now. Uprooting this age group of students in this monumental number will have a ENORMOUS impact on their academic, emotional and social stability. These students will be torn away from staff, teachers, counselors, students, clubs and sports teams that they depend on. 7th and 8th graders undergo intense cognitive, physical and emotional changes. This is turn makes 7th and 8th grade the most challenging years for students on multiple levels. This uprooting is catastrophic at this pivotal age. Stability is critical at this age. Not every student adjusts the same to monumental changes. Every child is different.

We demand that our students educational, emotional, and social stability not be completely destroyed. We implore that Map B include GRANDFATHERING for ALL 7th AND 8th grades students in the Lakewood Creek Subdivision.

Thank you.

Seeing this kind of movement confirms that the district cannot simply ignore the stress they are putting on our children. It has been a long and exhausting process but knowing so many neighbors feel this same urgency keeps me going.

Grandfathering in current students only makes sense. Uprooting the kids for no discernible reason makes no sense. There is no proven cost savings and no issues within the next 3 years of overcrowding. The move is only causing heartache and confusion, not to mention making life that much harder for the kids.

I find it very unfair to start kids at a school and get them comfortable to turn around and want to uproot them to another school the next year. They have established themselves and made friends. Our area has been changed 3 times already on Jr. High and it is not fair to the children it affects. Please allow these children to stay put. It is not worth the anxiety it will cause for these kiddos.

I have a 7th grade step daughter that has an IEP and I feel it would be a good thing for her not to have a change to another school due to boundary issues! She would regress in the progress she has made since she is now comfortable with Traugber!! District needs to take these things into consideration before they make such rash decisions!!

My son just moved into the district three years ago and it was very scary for him. Now we have this stress of him leaving his current school which he is in honors classes and great athlete within the school . I'm scared as a parent for this change, I can't imagine these kids,

If there are no over-crowding issues, just flip-flopping an equal number of students who currently attend with a group of students who attend elsewhere, seems capricous and pointless. Children need stability to be aboe to develop and thrive academically, as well as emotionally. At least let the 7th and 8th graders be grandfathered in.
