20 mph should be the signposted mandatory speed limit approaching schools . Heads, parents and teachers should not have to campaign to make thier children's journey to the school gates safer .

My daughter attends one of the primary schools along this road. The traffic drives dangerously fast at school times when there are many children crossing and walking close to the road. I would fully support the 20mph limit.

I wholeheartedly support the campaign and would argue there is strong case for reducing the 30mph limit on all roads in Skipton to 20mph. Not only would this make them safer but would reduce air and noise pollution for residents and pedestrians on those streets. 20mph appears to be the norm on residential streets (even the A roads) in the East End of London - if they can do it so can we!

Jenn Plews should be applauded for starting this much needed initiative. Its a shame its taken impending changes to school budgets and roll numbers to initiate this action. Feedback to SGHS Governors about congestion on Gargrave road met with a very weak response recently. As well as the 20mph limit: - Some residents need to trim back overhanging vegetation which block the pavement. - Pavements need to be widened in some areas. - SGHS especially should look at building some kind of managed layby/drop off area to ease the congestion in the side streets.

I use Gargrave road often when going to Skipton to visit family and know how busy it can be especially when school buses are negotiating other traffic.

I think this is a great idea. The number of school kids walking up and down this road everyday, often in groups and occasionally on the road. The reduced speed limit can only reduce the risks of incidents

Due to safety concerns coupled with the width of the road and several Schools on this stretch of Gargrave road, it would be beneficial to have a 20 mph speed limit in force.

This is an extremely good idea - and one that is long overdue. There have been numerous near misses. Traffic often moves too quickly and it seems extraordinary that the 20mph limits imposed outside most schools have not been imposed here where there are 2 secondary and 2 primary schools in a stretch of road about half a mile long.

I agree with the concept of a 20mph speed limit during school arrival & departure times. However, outside of these times, and during school holidays, I do not see why the residents of Skipton, and visitors, should be inconvenienced by an imposed 20mph, 24/24 hours, and 365/365 days a year. As the school year progresses, and more 6th formers turn 17, local residents are severely inconvenienced by the said new drivers, all wanting to now drive to school, and of course, park on the nearby streets!

I grew up on one of the streets off Gargrave Road and completely ageee this should be a 20mph Road. Not only due to school children and elderly people, but also due to the lack of visibility in low sunlight. However, I must also second what another petitioner commented previously. The school children from SGH and Ermysteads need to be reminded that they do not own the road. The number of times children have just walked out in front of my car, instead of using the crossing whilst stood next to the crossings is ridiculous. More respect should also be shown by members of school staff/parents/school children at driving age that they are parking on and blocking parking spaces for residents.

The whole road is a racetrack. Speed humps are needed all the way from the roundabout at coach street car park.

Well done Ms Plews: we locals should have done something about this years ago. A pedestian crossing by the newsagent would be most welcome and I am particularly concerned about high-speed drivers using mobile phones.

We totally support 20mph but suggest speed cameras on full length of Gargrave Road together with residents only parking on side streets.

This road is dangerous not only for children to cross, but also for elderly people and other adults

Speeding (over the 30mph limit) is becoming more of a problem throughout Skipton.

20mph on Gargrave Road is essential as there are 5 schools on that road

Couldn't agree more. There's some very dangerous driving that goes on that put people using Gargrave Rd at risk
