I totally agree with the reducing of the speed limit to 20 miles per hour on Gargrave Road in Skipton.

My son attends Ermysted's Grammar School, and busy traffic Gargrave Road is a serious concern at the start and end of the school day.

Since my daughters time at the SGHS - she's in year 8 -only just over a year - there have been at least 3 children hit by a car on Gargrave road. I believe a combined approach of traffic calming, parking restrictions & road safety reinforcement is required. However, I believe a reduced speed limit would have a significant impact. In Addingham, since we have had a 20mph limit through the village (following incidents with people versus vehicles) i believe there has only been one incident. My view is that we don't want to wait for a child to get killed or sustain a life changing injury before making minor changes.

These safety measures are needed to help pedestrians stay safe. Especially at the busiest times of 8.15am to 9.30am. Then 3.pm to 4.15 pm Monday to Friday.
Also to help drivers drive through the area more comfortable

20mph should be mandatory outside all schools This should have been sorted a long time ago

There also should be more bike routes to encourage parents to leave their cars at home. It would be relatively easy to create a traffic free route from Carleton to SGH, Ermy's and Academy, across the fields, footbridge, and Aireville park.

We've long thought this is a dangerous stretch of road. Speeding cars, blind spots behind school buses and loads of school children are not a safe combination

So much needs to be done everywhere round this area to stop dangerous and selfish parking and driving. This is a good start!
