It should be made mandatory for this to be the case outside all Schools - I therefore support this petition

Given the human traffic in this school location it is prudent that motor traffic is regulated to a responsible level that should enhance safety.

Most residential areas are becoming 20mph, this area is residential with schools which at the start and end of the day are full of cars and buses meaning children stepping into the road cannot be seen very easily. It should be 20mph.

My son is a pupil at Ermysteds Grammar school. Every evening my son has to cross Gargrave Road. This is a constant worry as the road is incredibly busy.

The potential for a tragedy hits me in the face every time I drive past the stretch from the turning by Walkers bakery right up past all of the schools to the mini roundabout. I would think that 30 would be appropriate after that point but yes, 20 lower down is long overdue.

This is a long overdue initiative. Gargrave Road is an accident waiting to happen. There should also be a crossing installed outside Ermysted's school.

These issues are always more complicated than first imagined. My understanding of these zones is that the smaller the distance covered, the more effect they will have, so on my part and based on my experience, it's a serious problem (particularly outside the girl's school) but generally only at the main arrival and departure periods. On that basis a temporary electronic signed 20 mph zone may be best, and then the only question is whether it should just be outside the girl's school or girls school to Coach Street layby/pelican crossing (on the basis that that stretch of the road is straighter and therefore greater visibility of children crossing, so less of a priority).

lets think this through. yes, it should be 20 at the school zone. but all the way up the road? bad idea. you will have people coming extremely fast off of the motorway, and you want them to slow down on the roundabout? not possible. it needs to be 20 past the farmshop. all the way up the road will cause so much congestion and traffic. yes you are keeping kids safe, but putting drivers at risk.
gust a little further down the road would be better.

Taking into account the number of incidences involving cars and children / pedestrians along this stretch of road, it is imperative that such measures are implemented to safeguard them.

That's a good start! But speed limit on its own won't solve all the problems such as very poor parking or drop off opportunities, extremely narrow lanes, no proper bus bays, children don't use the pelican crossing rather recklessly cross the road etc.

Safeguarding children's safety is paramount . 20 MPH speed limit should be the absolute maximum on Gargrave Rd . Also in need of designated crossing points .

Having read another comment, I think that a Pelican Crossing on Brook Street Corner is an excellent idea, as many children cross here having walked from the Railway Station but if not there, directly in front of Ermysteds Main drive, I think is essential.

With two large upper schools on Gargrave Road, it should most definitely be a 20mph zone and there should also be crossings outside the schools. It's crazy that there isn't!! There have been many accidents already.
