WHEREAS there are currently hundreds of residents of the city of East Lansing that live in "multi-family complexes" (apartment complexes with predominately off-campus MSU students)

WHEREAS these residents are forced to make a choice:

1) Accumulate recyclable materials in an already very limited living space and use an automobile to take the accumulated recyclable materials to a drop off location OR

2) Discard all unwanted matter in a dumpster to be sent to a landfill

WHEREAS the majority of said residents are MSU students who live off campus, many of whom do not have an automobile at their disposal and only use a bicycle or their feet.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the petitioners demand the City of East Lansing and the major property management companies (DTN, Campus Village, CRON, CRMC, the Chandler properties, etc.) to work together to provide recycling services (for plastic, metal, glass, and paper materials) for residents of "multi-family complexes" (apartment complexes ).
