First, we should have easy access to a rate schedule, which includes rates for both state prisons and county jail. There is none that I can find for North Carolina. Second, $7.95 to add money every single time is outrageous. $3.69 for the first minute, .69 for each additional is what I was told on the phone. He's 100 miles away. Customer service people are a joke.

It is unfair that families have to be subjected to higher than the average cost to communicate with loved ones in a correctional faciltiy. It makes it financial and emotionally hard when one can not communicate and the facility is over 5 hours away in the winter the travel is very difficult.

GTL charged my credit card, told me it was declined and didn't credit my account. I called customer service and was told that a supervisor would return my call...that never occurred. I was told my payment was declined because I use various credit cards. Your user agreement does not say that you can not use various cards. I called about the issue five times. I waited on hold to be transferred for a total of over 3hours. I was disconnected 4 times. I was told that when/if they fix the problem(credit my account for the calls charged and payed for) that I would have to pay a $5 refund fee. I was told that GTL does not have a corporate office or phone number to contact. I was told that I could write a letter to ask for the charges to be returned to my credit card or credited to my account. I was informed that no further requests would be placed to have a supervisor call me back. I have spent thousands and thousands of dollars with GTL. I have never complained about the numerous dropped calls or the terrible connections. I have never complained about the outrageous service charges. I will complain about the direct theft of my money. I will complain about the lack of transparency. I will complain about having money held by GTL and the excuse and belief that it is acceptable to do so because I use various payment methods. I will complain about the theft of my money due to a policy that I had no informed consent over. I will complain about the lack of customer service in trying to resolve this issue. I intend to file complaints with the FCC, the Utility Commission, the Better Business Bureau, the Office of Consumer of Government Affairs, the State Attorney General, and the Colorado Departnent of Corrections.

After opening an account and using my cell phone (which has an out-of-state area code) and depositing $25, I received 2 calls from my fiancé, one of which was cut short of the County Jail's allotted 15 minutes. After that, I was informed that I needed to deposit more funds into my account, but, by then, we had both wisened up, and he started calling my home phone - a landline in the same local area code as the jail. For about 10 days, whenever he called, I would simply follow the auto-prompts, agree to the terms and conditions, and, with the exception of a few dropped calls, things were okay. Then, one day his call came in from an 800-number, instead of the usual local area code, and the preceding recorded message stated that my "funds were low", and that I needed to either deposit more funds, OR "open a billing account" on-line, if I had not already done so. I called the jail, and they confirmed that it is NOT necessary to open an account, if the collect calls are being placed to a landline. Accounts are ONLY for CELL PHONE users.(Interestingly, the person I spoke to was emphatic that the ONLY phone company they do business with is OffenderConnect.com. She advised me to "stay away from GTL," because it sounded, from what I had told her, "like they're running a SCAM operation." She gave me the number to contact Inmate Telephones & Account Services, but, given that this was after business hours on a Friday evening, I got only a recording, telling me that I would have to wait until Monday. I decided, based on my feeling that it was critical for my fiancé and I to maintain contact during this time, that I would have to just play their game, set up an account, and get it straightened out on Monday, so I did this. After depositing the minimum amount of $25 into the new account, I checked my balance, just to be sure the deposit had gone through, and was smocked to discover that it was down to $17.00! Apparently, they had automatically applied an $8 service char

GlobelTel is a rip of making families accept and pay for calls coming from Texas when our loved ones are in the same state, county and sometimes even same city as us. Hope someone is held accountable soon!

GTL refused to offer me customer service because I would not give them my address. I pay online and they have not need of knowing my address. This is a shameless effort to gather information and I am sure to attempt to charge me more money for calls. GTL is a huge burden on inmate families and it drives me crazy that I pay exorbitant prices and Then repeatedly interrupt the call to tell me I am talking to an inmate that I had to open the account to talk too!

I had an incident this week with GTL, where they blocked my calls from my father who is in prison without my permission until I would give them personal info and pre-pay for the calls. I have been receiving calls for years and ILD Services was billing them through my local phone service with ATT. I called GTL with questions and that prompted them to block calls. I think I am paying a higher rate with the pre-pay service. Outrageous!

I have been charged for calls that were disconnected in the middle of a conversation when there was still money on my account. Then would be charged for the reconnect fee which is very high, I'm really tired of it. These people need to be jailed! because they are the real crooks.

I truely think that it is unfair that I put money on me and my daughters phone so that we can talk to our family member and they (GTL) dropt the calls ant terminate the calls for "SO CALLED" 3 way calling and say that they don't refund cell phones. That is one of the most craziest outlandish things I've heard. The crazy things is that I don't even know how to make 3 way calls on my cell phone. Every time I'm on the phone I can hear the people that's listening to the call moving, messing with the phones, and picking up and hanging up calls, but they claim nothing can be done about it. I know that's not true because something can be done about everything and something needs to be done about this because I along with others don;t have money to just give away/ throw away like this. Please help.

This company has been used to connect my son to the family now over 7 years and has been extremely expensive. I have the same issues mentioned, but also noticed that there is a fee for the calls which is not disclosed when making a purchase. I had to find out apparently the funds that was placed was not used by my son that where consumed with the initial fee for adding the funds. This is unethical to not disclose your fees that will be used to what area, so it can be understandable of where the money is going.

It is so hard when a loved one is put in jail, especially for "Non-Violent crimes.GTL is really taking advantage of the inmates families by charging such absurd rates. This is especially hard on people who's loved one was the primary provider of income. It is already a burden on families having a loved one incarcerated, charging these rates just makes that burden so much higher and stressful. This needs to STOP, there should be other options not just a monopoly held by GTL.The prison system is overflowing with non-violent people. This is costing Tax payers Billions of dollars each year. Keep prisons open for Violent crimminals, not people who have violation of probation because of Medicinal marijuana usage as prescribed by a qualified Physician? I speak as a Victim of a Violent crime, my Father was murdered in his own home sleeping in his bed! Please allow other ways that are more affordable to families to keep in contact with their family member that is incarcerated. It is not only the inmate that suffers from incarceration but the entire Family of that person, shame on this legalized theft by GTL.
