I support the following demands that will help give students of color equitable access to high school sports in New York City.
1. Provide every NYC DOE high school with funding to have 6 sports teams of their choice
2. The NYC DOE funds a community based high school sports league for students who go to a high school without the sport they want to play
3. The NYC DOE equitably shares all NYC DOE owned courts and fields .
4. The NYC DOE equitably shares all public park permits issued to the NYC DOE

I have been reading through the comments and honestly it just breaks my heart how many kids are being pushed out of sports because their schools have zero budget or just no space for a team. I am putting together a folder of these stories to drop off at the district office because somebody finally needs to look at the reality of what is happening on the ground.

I am honestly reeling from how fast this picked up speed because I really thought I would be the only one shouting about these broken fields and missing teams into the void. It feels like the tide is finally turning and those early morning emails from people who actually get it kept me going even when I was exhausted.

My school would love to have more PSAL programs but have been denied due to "lack of funding" on their end. Let em play!
Equity in schools now! This is the tale of two cities our Mayor ran his campaign on!
All the students not matter the race deserve the same rights and equal access to sports. Is unfair to denied the right to immigrant students the funds necessaries in order to implement sports in their school. Is my school and I CARE.
This is an unfortunate result of Mayor Bloomberg's policy of creating smaller schools. While I see positive impacts of the policy, this is the largest negative impact and we need to alleviate the problem.
Participation in organized sports helps motivate students to keep their grades up, increases self discipline skills, serves as an outlet for energy and creativity, gives opportunity for practical mathematical thinking, just to name a few benefits.
Vital in our schools. Proven to be directly linked to improved academics and social emotional balance.
Varsity athletics were some of the greatest experiences of my life. This needs to be addressed to kids can experience the same love for sports

Students need the exposure and experience that accompanies team sports. Especially in the Bronx, students need something positive to connect to.
