Did you know homeschooled students in New York are banned from joining school sports teams even if they live in the same district?
We’re fighting to change that. NYS Assembly Bill A389 would give homeschooled students the same chance to compete, grow, and thrive.

Of note before the 1996 appellate court decision in Bradstreet v. Sobol, select districts throughout NYS would allow homeschooled students to participate in school sports. Allowing homeschoolers to participate in public school sports fosters their social development, physical health, discipline, confidence, college opportunities, and sense of civic inclusion.

Homeschoolers deserve to play sports on teams at schools which are funded by taxpayers' dollars, whether the taxpayer has children in public school or not. It would be good for the homeschoolers as well as for the punlic-school educated children as they get to meet new friends and stretch their social and athletic skills.
Homeschooling is teaching kids. They learn better sometimes than in some schools due to no bullying, better concentration and more individual interaction. They deserve to play sports too. Their parents pay taxes just as regular school parents do.
We need this for clubs as well.

Since children had this opportunity before I don't think it should be something taken away from them
