Dear Council Members,
Weask for you to vote YES to return the International ICC codes back to suggestions and recommendations. This action would take effect 3-6 months after a vote in whichtime we can review, revise and approve a Life-Safety set of Gilbert Governing Codes.
Whereas: The current ICC building codes have a direct impact on the citizens of Gilbert yet were not written by anyone from or familiar with Gilbert; and
Whereas: Those in the building industry have been rebuffed by plan reviewers and building inspectors in working together in a common sense fashion in the best interests of the home owners and citizens of Gilbert, due to the existing 2006 ICC codes; and
Whereas: Our earnest requests have been met with insults and retaliatory measures from Town Staff, having the negative effect on tradesmen and citizens alike, causing them to resort to silent compliance to illogical and nonsensical requirements; and
Whereas: The current town management has been unable and unwilling to work with the citizens or those in the trades to put together a simple set of comprehensible life/safety codes while these current 2006 ICC codes are still in place as law as passed by previous councils; and
Whereas: The current ICC building codes were passed into law by previous and current council members without having been read or understood. We ask you to rescind them as mandated law on the citizens of Gilbert and return them to their rightful place in the free market economy as suggestions and recommendations.

I really thought this might just fizzle out in the draft folder because the bureaucrats keep telling us to just accept the status quo. It is honestly heartening to see so many people realize that town management needs to listen to us instead of hiding behind these outdated codes that nobody even read before they signed them off.

GET IT DONE. Gilbert needs common sense back.
total nightmare dealing with plan reviewers who refuse to listen. these codes are outdated and just plain bad for builders anyway.
so tired of dealing with inspectors who get a power trip over 2006 codes that dont even make sense for our town. time for a change.
Building a house shouldn't be harder than rocket science just because the town staff wants to be difficult. Listen to the people for once.
Enough with the overreach. We can handle our own rules here without some outsiders from who knows where telling us how to build a shed.
The council needs to stop growing the government.

Always a battle, right and wrong, never ends, never understand why the forces of "dumb" can cause so much trouble and seem to enjoy being illogical.
