Many colleges around the U.S. have both a live mascot and campus pets. I think UNG should honor its past and pay homage to our former mascot the Saint Bernard. Dogs have been proven to help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Tennessee has Smokey, Georgia has UGA, and other Senior Military Colleges such as Texas A&M and The Citadel have Reveille and General Mike. Many Students here at UNG live hours away from home and many of us miss our beloved pets. Having a campus dog would help many students mentally and would allow for us to have a furry friend close to our new home. I think it would be a fun and interactive competition to have students vote on a name for our campus dog. I am planning to send this petition to Mrs. Jacobs and would appreciate all the support from signing my petition.
