This petition is to ultimately establish a Gay-Straight Alliance within our Decatur County Community Schools.
A Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) can provide the following, but is not limited to:
- Creating a diverse and inclusive environment for our children, within their schools, and bridging the gap between our LGBTQ students and their peers.
- Providing support, safety, and confidentiality to students who are struggling with and/or experiencing harassment due to their sexual orientation, gender identity or identification.
- Providing a social group/network where our LGBTQ youth can feel accepted and respected, and can discuss issues and learn coping skills.
- Teaching our kids to support and value each other as Human Beings, through education and social interaction.
This not only benefits our youth, but it also benefits our entire community!!

At the Greensburg high school We have Friends for Equality (or FFE) which is like a gay-straight alliance but includes pretty much everyone. We do a lot with Lgbtqia+ but we also deal with any type of diversity such as race, religion, poverty, mental illness, etc. Who started this petition?
