Gap Jeans

Gap Inc. is a well-known clothing retailer, in fact, it is the second largest in the world. As with many corporations, its clothing is made in factories that are located in developing countries, such as India and Bangladesh. However, within these factories, atrocious human rights violations are committed on a daily basis. Workers are beaten, paid below minimum wage and forced to work unpaid overtime. In addition to these infringements, children as young as 10 years old are forced to work without pay. These conditions cannot persist and must be addressed immediately. Subcontractors need to understand that even if Gap does not constantly supervise them, they must adhere to the company's "Vendor Code of Conduct". However, it is also Gap's fault for improper management of its factories. Although it has acknowledged and partially addressed these issues, they still occur. We, as consumers, need not only to acknowledge the problems, but also to change the stores from which we buy. By signing this petition, we are spreading awareness of this prominent issue and forcing corporations to take actions in order to avoid profit losses.
