The public land on both sides of Pennsylvania Avenue between 7th Street and 9th Street, SE around the Eastern Market METRORAIL Station, often called the Eastern Market Metro Plaza, is located in the heart of Capitol Hill. It connects the Eastern Market to the north, Barracks Row to the south, and Pennsylvania Avenue to the east and west. Two million people a year use the Eastern Market Metro stop, many of whom come from other neighborhoods and are transferring to or from a bus. Yet, despite its local and citywide importance, this historic area, which was envisioned as a park in the L'Enfant Plan for the District, has been neglected for decades.

Four years ago, Barracks Row Main Street (BRMS) led a year-long design process that resulted in a plan to revitalize this public space and transform it into a world-class park and vastly improved transit hub to better serve residents and visitors alike. The plan, which enjoys broad based support from the Capitol Hill community and Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen, is available at: easternmarketmetropark.org.

BRMS is now asking for help from residents, businesses, and other Capitol Hill organizations to let the DC Council and the Mayor know that our community wholeheartedly supports this project and wants to see it move forward.

If you believe that funds should be identified and set aside in the city's capital budget to transform the decaying Eastern Market Metro Plaza into a beautiful public space, please add your name to this petition.
