We need a dramatic shift in Policy. Covid-19 Policies have taken away our right to be with Dementia patients, who need their loved ones. Seniors cannot all be put under one category. Long term care homes are closed off, but what about DEMENTIA WARDS? They need our nurturing and attention, it has deleterious effects on them. There is no reason why we cant take the same protocol as the frontline workers. We are not visitors, we are essential care to them and the grounding of their disease and Covid Isolation. Frontline Family Dementia Caregivers, need to get in side these lockdown wards immediately. Safety is essential in these extraordinary times, if they can do it, so can we. I live in Vancouver, CANADA, and the Ministry of Health, in every province of Canada NEEDS to create a new Jurisdiction for us. Covid is not going away any time soon, but our loved ones are are, without us by their side. Please be apart of this, and help us get closer to our loved ones with DEMENTIA in times of Covid -19.

Updates

May 26, 2020

The growth of this petition has reached a level that commands attention from provincial health authorities. I have begun drafting formal letters to the Ministry of Health to establish the essential caregiver status we are demanding.

Depriving these dementia patients the family visits is like letting them die a slow death. They are losing their only meaningful connection to their past.

May 26, 2020deleteI am trying to connect with the Ministry of health, I have already sent out an email days ago, to which I have had no response. I have contacted as well the Minister of Seniors in Quebec, who have already passed a bill called "Humanitarian Gesture' that allows seniors in LTCH to go outside and have family visit them. But, nothing yet...

My husband is in late stage dementia. He is confined to wheelchair, can’t see, or talk or speak but mind is still functioning. He needs companionship! He needs love. PSW’s don’t have enough time to talk or wheel him around. Please! I’ll take all tests!

To their past and the ability to express love and connection, which remains. They feel more than ever.

These people are coming to the end of their lives and what they hold dear is being taken away from them, their families!
