URGENT MESSAGE! The DNR has agreed to discuss the logging that will take place this winter. We will meet this Monday, October 14th at 10:30 am at the Dursum Road parking access area. I realize many of you will be working so please sign this petition and pass it on to anyone you feel would like to have a voice.
Two pints I’d like to address:

1. Logging equipment should be clean and not go through any areas with high ecological value.

2. After logging, we need a guaranteed follow-up to guard against the spread of Invasive plant species.

Updates

The DNR agreed to sit down with us to talk about these logging restrictions. I need you to email your local representatives right now to demand they hold the agency accountable to these two requirements. If you cannot attend the meeting on Monday then you must post this link to your Facebook page to keep the pressure high.

The momentum behind this petition is forcing the DNR to pay attention to our concerns. Now you need to email your local representative and demand they attend the meeting at the Dursum Road access point.

What is the purpose of logging such a sensitive area? This is a rare, wooded space close to a densely populated urban area. This seems remarkably short-sighted. Once the canopy is gone, the ground growth will take off. Even if they do attempt to protect the area from invasives, that will likely be done with chemicals. This sounds like a horrible idea.

Please leave the Cannonsburg State Game Area as it is. Past local logging projects have caused far more harm than the revenue they created. The area is for the cyclists, the runners and the hunters. Let them decide—not politicians or people working for the state.

With the clear cut Conifers will be replaced by Autumn Olive, yuk! Responsible select cutting is the only way

Cutting dead and diseased tree is needed to ensure the health of our forests. Clear cutting is unacceptable. What will be replanted? What is planned for the waste land left behind and the ecosystem that is harmed by this practice?

While I understand the purpose of logging, please clean up your mess when you are done. As a mountain biker we get blasted if we leave any sign behind.....so do your jobs and keep our nature clean too.

Iunderstand you have to manage the land. But, please give due diligence to this public land. Protect the native plants that currently grow there and don't leave a vacuum for more invasive plants to make their way into the state game area. Thank you.

Such a beautiful area. We are counting on the DNR to log responsibly and avoid areas of high ecological value and to minimize the spread of invasive species.
