I am requesting the DNR host a public meeting with Gladwin County residents focused on assisting the county to increase the ability to attract more visitors thus having a positive economic impact for Gladwin County. The primary visitor targets are anyone that enjoys outdoor motorsports, safe and enjoyable walking and hiking, as well as hunting and camping in the hundreds of miles of Gladwin County State land.

Specifically I support the following initiatives to be discussed at a meeting with clear follow action defined during the meeting on each of the three topics below:

1) West River Drive Main Trail - The DNR work with the community and reach an amicable alternative to the formal closing of the main West River Drive trail to Secord Dam Road. Access to Secord Dam Road has a major economic impact on may businesses.

2) Help The Community Attract More Spend Dollars to Gladwin - Why have the ATV trails in Gladwin County not been expanded over the years to attract riders and their money spending in Gladwin County ? Gladwin is losing money to places like St Hellen and Houghton Lake. What can be done ?

3) Explain and Consider Changing Forest Management - The way in which forest clearing is left after completion leaves the woods very difficult to walk for the foreseeable future. The community understands that responsible management is important. But why is the DNR not including chipping in each forest contract and ensuring that it is done on a VERY HIGH level before the contractors leave ? After the contractors leave I want rut free land that has minimal piles of branches and can be easily walked and enjoyed.

Opening up connector trails and more access to fuel and food will bring income to the Gladwin/beaverton/billings area. An area that could use some increase in traffic. Since the edenville dam broke, that area has suffered from lack of tourism, boating, fishing, etc. businesses like food, and lodging took a hit. It would be good to gain some more traffic with well maintained trails and ease of access to the supplies needed to continue to allow the area to thrive.

Please also consider the trail off of Mohawk Ln. It used to be my favorite place to go after working all week. Getting to see nature is the best. With the trail closed, nobody even uses it

The main trail from west river dr to Secord dam road is only path for west river ORV’s to get to trails down dam road, not to mention places to eat like Eagles, River House, Bentley, etc.

The closure of the West River Drive access rout to Secord Damn Lake Road is a true loss for the community. It has been utalized for years to safely travel from the west side of the lake to access the main trails by avoiding the M roads. My hope is the DNR reconsiders it position.
