Even with doing pre.payment finding it so hard...hospital appointments to and from let alone keeping roof over heads.....

Matt I totally agree with you as I take 20 tablets a day to survive and keep my wife's kidney from failing. It is unfair and unacceptable that we are not issued with a life long exemption certificate. Maybe the govt. and the NHS would prefer to pay out the very high costs of each dialysis sessions-ie 3 per week. The system is again failing people who need support the most.

Hi there transplant buddies,
I am a kidney transplant patient, luckily i was free medication during my study and job period in Pakistan. Which was a really great support for me from SIUT, Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplant. I would love to receive the same support from UK during my studies.

Transplant patients have to take medication for life. The main issues with the decision makers are that they don't understand the implications of transplants because it's not in the news all the time like, with respect, cancer. Transplant patients ARE actually HIGH RISK CANCER BECAUSE OF THE ANTI REJECTION DRUGS! Please support free scripts for transplant patients - kidney failure / general kidney diseases are a silent illness too. While you're about it, please sign up to organ donation. Thank you.

I work as a nurse with chronic disease management of patients as my role. One of the main problems of ill health is non compliance with medication regiemes. Forgive me but some people are just not good enough at either looking after themselves or co-ordinating their management. I give prompts where required and whenever I can, in the limited time I have to spend with each one. I have several transplant recipients, I never have to give prompts to them. They are completely 'on board' and thoroughly immersed in 'prevention is better than cure' ideology and manage their treatment and hospital appointments without any extra input/prompting from myself.
I am also a mother of a child, now almost 14, who had a transplant at age only 8 and a half MONTHS. Medication taken is a way of life, normal life for my child. Without which she knows she will become ill and die. My husband and I both receive free prescriptions for medical conditions, conditions both out with our control both in the occurrence of them (by this I mean through no mis management of our health nor from our lifestyle) which keep us in good health. How can a child/person with, if medication is unavailable, born with a condition that transplant is the only cure for AND if medication were unavailable serious illness and death would result. How can this person be denied the same right of free prescriptions. I would be interested to hear your reply and look forward to hearing from you soon.

These are necessary life saving prescriptions and should be free of charge as most recipients will have to take time off work for appointments which reduces their incomes even further

My daughter is a transplant patient. The amount of medication she needs to take is staggering. Why does our Government discriminate against transplant patients by making them pay for prescriptions but not others who need medications to keep them alive and healthy? Think on Mr Cameron and Mr Lansley.
