The administration has acknowledged the volume of this petition and requested a meeting to discuss the specific clauses in the current dress code. I am drafting a formal proposal to present during that session which outlines exactly how these policies disrupt the learning environment. Expect a follow up report once we have concluded those discussions with the board.

The issue is not what the students wear, rather how what they wear is perceived. Condemning students for what they wear only makes them feel as if they should feel ashamed of their body, rather than proud. It is very contradictory to tell a young woman that she is beautiful just the way she is while making her cover up her shoulders because they are too “distracting”. The issue is the young men not being able to keep their eyes off of young women, not the fashion choices of the female students. Shaming females for what they wear is simply ignorance to the real issue at hand. Seems as if we are moving in the opposite direction of where we should be moving as a society.
This new “crackdown” on the dress code is completely ridiculous. Not limiting only expressive creativity, but is completely one sided, targeting females over males.

So we’ve decided that teaching girls to hide their bodies is far more important than teaching boys not to objectify us as females. Great lesson
