Living on Treasure Island has been a blessing and a bane. We enjoy terrific views of the San Francisco and East Bay, have an incredible amount of open space and affordable rent. We don't however have many services that other neighborhoods enjoy. We don't have the option to access the cities free wifi nor do we have the option of choosing internet providers other than Comcast or dish network. Cell service would be greatly enhanced if the wifi were Improved. We were promised use of the cities free wifi services years ago and were ecstatic but it never worked properly. We ask that the city implement a system that functions for all of the island residents, business and visitors. The city is beginning to work on free wifi for its parks, so why shouldn't we have reliable service as well? We often host events and markets that serve the cities residents as much as the mainland parks and public areas within the city. With regard to AT&T, They maintain the lines for cable and Internet to the island and yet we don't have the option to choose them, or other companies, as our provider. The only options are Comcast cable or the Dish network. Comcast has the greater monopoly on service, even as they use the lines maintained by AT &T. When residents complain about the slowing of service or advance billing issues, for instance, they are disinterested because they know our options are limited. The Dish network relies on satellite plates applied to our units, that is not a problem until the grade 2 winds blow it in a direction that effects the reception. The conditions on the island require the use of in ground cable systems. We would like the City of San Francisco and AT&T to change the way it delivers these basic services to the island residents and help to make this neighborhood function at the same level as the mainland.
