The government is currently proposing that Parliamentary terms should be fixed at a length of five years. It would be more democratic for us to elect our MP's more often, with four year terms, as we as citizens would more regularly have an influence over our government, by exercising our democratic right to vote. US Presidents are elected every four years, as is the Scottish Parliament, the Welsh Assembly and the Stormont government in Northern Ireland. Why, therefore, should UK MP's only have to face the electorate every five? We petition the government to alter its plans, and hold Parliamentary elections every four years.
