I believe wholeheartedly that if we bring a child into the world that we as parents know them better than any consultant/nurse.
If we say that their emotional behaviour is so severe that we feel that the need is there to have them sectioned then the least that can happen is to be listened to. The need being that they may be a risk to themselves or others.
This too should happen if you feel the need for someone who is close to you that they need sectioning,...... you should always be listened to.
If you are NOT listened to then the person who failed you must accept the responsibility for the outcome.
In our case my son took his own life within 24 hours of my begging the hospital and consultant to section him.
Since my son (aged 28) took his own life I have found that I am by no means the only one that has been treated in this way.
This cannot be allowed to keep happening.
The stories shared in the comments reflect a recurring pattern of disregard that parents and loved ones face during times of crisis. I am currently working to organize these accounts so that officials are forced to confront the reality of how this system fails those it is meant to protect.

Seeing the growing momentum behind this call for change brings a heavy but necessary comfort. It is clear that many other families have endured this same silence and pain. We are building a collective recognition that the expertise of those who know and love a person must be respected when lives are at stake.

The doctors really think they know better but they see people for ten minutes. They have no idea what goes on day to day. Things have to change now.

Total incompetence. If a parent says their child is a danger listen to them. Period.

Doctors need to start taking family concerns seriously instead of just checking a box. My heart goes out to you.

This hits way to close to home. The system is completely broken and families are paying the price. So sorry for what you went through.
