As of now students attending St. Tammany Parish High Schools as foreign exchange students are not allowed to participate in graduation activities. After speaking with the St. Tammany Parish School Board we are writing this to show our support of those who agree with our cause of allowing foreign exchange students to “walk” in graduation, not receive a diploma but to be able to participate in the ceremony and simply have their name called while they walk across the stage. :

In order to have a complete, well rounded foreign exchange experience I believe that senior students although not completing the curriculum needed for graduation should be allowed to “walk” if they are in a foreign exchange program that is meant to immerse the student in the United States culture. Many other exchange students have the opportunity to “walk” at their graduation across the country, even when they do not have the necessary credits to receive a diploma.

The school board has officially acknowledged the volume of interest regarding the graduation policy. I am now finalizing the formal proposal for the upcoming board meeting to address this specific change.

Being part of every day life in the US as an exchange student, why shouldn't they be part of the graduation?

Many seniors are allowed to walk even though they don't receive a diploma. This policy needs to be looked at a little closer. We live in a global world. I support this cause.

As an exchange student myself I understand how important this moment would be and how much I would love to be integrated in this part. The exchange year is all about integrating into a new culture and in my opinion this opportunity would com the High school experience.

As a former exchange student, getting to "walk" on my graduation day is one of my greatest memories from my year at Stadium High School, Tacoma WA.

I had an exchange student living with us in 1986 & she was allowed to walk with her class.

If I, as a foreign exchange student in California, am allowed to participate in all the Senior activities as well as the graduation, Viktoria should be allowed as well.
