Sainsburys- 35832 tonnes per year. Asda- 32020 tonnes per year. Aldi- 13377 tonnes per year. And that's just in the UK. The amount of good food thrown away by supermarkets each year would be enough to feed over 16 million UK families, and on top of this, the environmental impacts of this waste are getting out of hand. By signing this petition you will help us to pair food businesses in Stroud with local food banks- to not only help the environment, but also thousands of struggling families to feed their children. We will write to our local MP, David Drew with this petition to force him to see this issue in it's magnitude, and make a change across our local, then national, community.

I think what you are doing is great and I just want to say everyone at Christmas should have the opportunity to sit down, be happy and have a family meal. And if you are reading this just think before you throw food away, what would you do to this food if you were someone living without food and in poverty.

I think that the amount of food we waste is very thoughtless considering how many people in the world are malnourished, we are actually being quite disrespectful in wasting food

Quite surprised that supermarkets in Stroud aren't doing this..in London The Felix Project have back of store collections from most chains and collect cancelled on line orders. Just ask the foodbank to speak with the store manager and if no joy escalate it to central management

Of course food withdrawn from sale should go to food banks and anything not suitable for consumption should be composted. People under community service orders could remove the packaging - but then excessive packaging is another eco-issue

I think that this campaign will really make a difference too. It's such a thoughtful thing to do and I will tell my parents to stop buying food we don't actually need to have, like crisps...

I think this is such a good cause and it will make such a difference. I think David Drew will think the same as I, and be happy to help and push this forward.
