IF YOU ARE A STUDENT OF FLAGLER COLLEGE

take a few moments to watch the video below.

(Copy and paste the link, please.)

The mission of Flagler states:

"The aim of Flagler College is to provide a supportive and challenging environment in which students acquire knowledge, exercise good citizenship, and adhere to high ethical standards."

IF YOU CARE ABOUT THE WEIGHT/VALUE OF YOUR DEGREE PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION.*

This video is an awful reflection of that statement, in fact, it makes our school look like a joke. Moreover, this video is insulting to all the alumni who have worked hard to earn their degree. Flagler is NOT some summer camp. There is no sense of prestige or the "challenging" environment that Flagler claims to have.

By signing this petition you are agreeing that this video is

1) A poor reflection of the College

2) The narrative of the college needs to be reevaluated

3) This video needs to be taken down and recreated

Seeing this kind of movement confirms that my frustration is shared by so many others. It is exhausting to fight for the reputation of our degree but knowing I am not alone makes the weight a little easier to carry.

This video is an inaccurate and embarrassing portrayal of a degree at Flagler. Although the environment of the campus is beautiful and there are good times to be had, at the end of the day we go to college for a reputable degree. I came to Flagler because of the higher standard of education, not to go surfing instead of class. Where is the emphasis on the education in this video? No where. One last note, the $30,000 budget for the film is an outrage. There are plenty of production students who could have presented a more accurate depiction of the school for no money at all. I didn't pay my tuition here to have a video make a joke out of it.

Although this is what some students do on their spare time, this is in no way, shape, or form what Flagler College is about. I love Flagler with all of my heart. The professors here are amazing! However, if there is going to be a video on youtube about what Flagler College is all about, this is certainly not it. I paid for a meaningful education; Not to be closer to the beach and play sports. I could have gotten that back at home.

Welcome to Flagler: where all you do is go to the beach and the education doesn't matter. That's right, your degree is a joke, just like the points on Whose Line.

I don't know what that first girl's major is, but I have rarely spent a semester without stress. Flagler has so much more to offer than just a fun environment, a video about this school needs to focus on the great academic programs and close relationships with the professors.

This video does nothing to show what the college really stands for. When I talk to students looking to come to flagler I tell them about the excellent teachers who really care about you and help you as much as they can, not about the beach.

The video budget was not $30,000. It was shot & edited by a local video production company comprised of several graduates of Flagler College, and their budget was nowhere near that. I don't know specifics, but I definitely know it wasn't that high. They also produced a huge number of videos for the website & interactive map (http://www.flagler.edu/admission-aid/visit/interactive.html) that show better aspects of the college than this one small video.

As the creator of this video and many other videos for Flagler I feel the need to make some things clear that are definitely being misstated on this petition. While the budget of the project has nothing to do with the statements this petition is declaring, nor is it relevant, I can assure you that the numbers being thrown around in these comments are far from accurate. In addition, this video was created by recent Flagler graduates who put a lot of time and effort into creating something that hadn't been done before. It's easy to look back at something and say how it could be better, but there is always that first step which people are afraid to take. This is one of many videos created for Flagler. This one in particular was intended to be a reflection of the lighter side of campus with less attention to academics. There are some which only focus on academics. It is one of many and not necessarily meant to be used as the only reflection of who the College is. It has been understood for some time that a video which reflects all aspects of Flagler should be used as the centerpiece but everything takes time and patience. All of this being said, I completely understand your viewpoint and bringing all of this up reflects the integrity of the students, alumni, and staff, and how much everyone involved cares for Flagler College. I assure you that both us as a company and the administration have discussed these same concerns and are addressing them. This discussion has been going on well before this petition, but I'm sure that the administration would love to have your constructive feedback. Please keep in mind when making offhanded comments that there are real people involved in all of this and the use of baseless numbers and accusations can damage both feelings and reputations. We don't take anything like this lightly and I assure you neither does Flagler College. I would suggest donating your time and energy into helping create the video that yo
