The batters boxes that are used for recreational slow-pitch softball 4 days a week and for tournaments needs to be fixed. The Mercer Slowpitch players have offered to pay for Mats as well as the installation of the mats to the batters boxes. Ignoring this issue can lead to injury not only for slowpitch players but also the girls fastpitch teams that use the fields as well for tournaments.
I have been hearing from so many of you about the nasty ankle turns and trips you have had on these fields. My own teammates keep telling me they are afraid to step into the box because of how deep the holes have become. I am currently putting together a formal request to the parks department to push them again regarding the mats we are willing to provide.

Seeing this level of support reminds me why I started this fight after seeing so many players trip on those uneven boxes. It feels like we are finally being taken seriously by the people who manage these fields.

Batters boxes on the softball fields at Mercer County Park are way too deep & dug out. They should be maintained to the same standard as the baseball field's batters boxes are.

Why should this seriously even need a petition? Just please fix so no one gets hurt.

My daughter plays travel ball here and its honestly embarrassing how bad those boxes look compared to the baseball side. Fix it before someone breaks an ankle.

As much as Mercer County touts having the best recreational facilities in the state, the batter boxes are deplorable. The best thing about this petition, it will either get done or they will drop softball at Mercer County Park. Why? Liability. It is now officially out there as being an issue.

The sand is so uneven in those boxes its basically a tripping hazard waiting to happen. Just take the offer to install the mats and stop dragging your feet.

This needs to have been done yesterday. Hitting out of a hole is both dangerous and can be difficult especially in the slow pitch game as many batters shuffle their feet to adjust to pitches. Plays at the plate will also be dangerous.
